Collier Row, London (Sun 1 Dec) – The Collier Row Mosque Football Tournament proved to be a spectacular success, engaging local youth in a day of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and charitable giving. Held at the Noak Hill Sports Complex, the event united over 60 players and dozens of spectators in a celebration of community spirit and purpose.
The tournament, a collaboration between Collier Row Mosque and Essex Salam Sports, aimed to provide meaningful activities for young people while raising funds for the mosque’s initiatives that benefit the local community. A vibrant series of matches stretched into the evening, running under the floodlights, as teams competed with passion and skill.
The emotionally charged final match culminated in an exhilarating penalty shootout after a tense draw in regulation time. The Havering Brothers team triumphed in sudden death, clinching the victory just moments before the floodlights were switched off. As if by divine timing, rain began to fall as the tournament concluded – a symbolic end to a truly remarkable day.
The Noak Hill Sports Complex graciously supported the event, allowing play to continue beyond the allotted time to ensure a fitting finale for players and fans alike. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers and excitement filling the air as families and friends rallied to support their teams.
The tournament raised an impressive £1,349, with all proceeds going directly to the mosque to support its role as a community hub. The funds will help sustain initiatives aimed at fostering connections, providing opportunities for young people, and supporting charitable causes.
“We are overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm from everyone who participated,” said a representative from the Collier Row Mosque. “This tournament wasn’t just about football; it was about bringing people together, building stronger community bonds, and empowering our youth. We’re grateful to the Noak Hill Sports Complex for their generosity and to everyone who contributed to this unforgettable event.”
As the final whistle blew, it was clear that the true winners were the community members themselves, who came together to connect, share, and make a difference.
