Councillor John Crowder, ward representative for Havering-atte-Bower, met with members of the local mosque on Wednesday (4 Dec), following an invitation extended as part of Islamophobia Awareness Month in November. The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the mosque’s role in supporting the community and fostering positive connections within the area.
During the visit, mosque representatives outlined their wide-ranging initiatives, including youth programs, women’s events, litter-picking efforts, and ongoing contributions to local food banks. These activities have helped strengthen community cohesion and provide vital support to local residents.
The mosque also highlighted its proactive efforts to address potential concerns around its operations. Representatives emphasised their commitment to being good neighbours and maintaining open dialogue with the wider community.
“We are proud to serve as a hub for collaboration and positive action in the local area,” said Mohammad Sherif, a trustee of the mosque. “Today’s visit was an encouraging step in building stronger connections with our local leaders, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share our work.”
The visit reflects the mosque’s ongoing dedication to fostering understanding and working in partnership with all members of the community.
