Collier Row, Romford – [08 April 2024] – The Collier Row Mosque remains steadfast in its mission to promote unity, understanding, and resilience in the wake of a recent act of vandalism. The incident, which involved the defacement of a sign outside the mosque with racist graffiti, has been met with an outpouring of support from the local community, reinforcing the strength and solidarity of the diverse population in Romford.

The Metropolitan Police are currently investigating the act as a hate crime, emphasising their commitment to ensuring justice and protecting all community members from such deplorable acts. The mosque’s leadership expresses their gratitude to the police for their prompt response and thorough investigation.

“While this act of vandalism is deeply disheartening, it has also served as a powerful reminder of the kindness and support that exists within our community,” said Anhar Ali, a spokesperson for the Collier Row Mosque. “We have received numerous messages of solidarity from our neighbours, local organisations, and community leaders. This support strengthens our resolve to continue our work in fostering a harmonious and inclusive environment for everyone.”

In response to the incident, the mosque is planning a series of community events aimed at promoting understanding and unity. These initiatives will include open houses, interfaith dialogues, and cultural exchange programs designed to bring people of all backgrounds together, celebrate diversity, and build stronger relationships within the community.

The mosque is also taking steps to enhance security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its worshippers and visitors. Collaborations with local law enforcement and community groups are being strengthened to create a safe and welcoming environment for all.

“Acts of hate will not deter us,” the spokesperson continued. “They only reinforce our commitment to peace, tolerance, and unity. We stand together with our community, and together, we will overcome hate with love and understanding.”

The Collier Row Mosque extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who has shown support during this time. The mosque encourages all community members to participate in the upcoming events and join hands in building a more inclusive and united Romford.
