The Collier Row Mosque is delighted to share the success of its litter picking event on Saturday (14 Dec), where members of the community came together to make a positive impact on our local environment.
 
Braving an early morning wintry chill, softened by bursts of sunshine, a group of 8 adults and 6 children – ranging in age from just 3 years old – donned their hi-visibility jackets and gloves to help keep Collier Row clean and tidy.
 
Equipped with litter-picking equipment generously provided by Havering Borough Council, the volunteers collected numerous bags of rubbish, some so heavy they had to be deposited en route! Their efforts not only improved the area’s appearance but also demonstrated the power of civic contribution and community spirit.
 
The event highlighted the importance of taking pride in our surroundings and inspiring others to do good. Neighbours expressed their appreciation and encouragement, with one kind resident even offering chocolate treats to the children – a gesture that was met with beaming smiles and gratitude. The children’s enthusiasm was infectious, showing that even the youngest among us can contribute to making a difference.
 
The Mosque hopes to make this litter-picking initiative a regular part of its calendar, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and fostering stronger community bonds.
 
The event’s success has already sparked interest from groups outside Collier Row who are looking to emulate this example, further amplifying its positive impact.
