The Collier Row Mosque (CRM) is delighted to announce that Havering Council’s planning committee has approved a proposal to extend its opening hours, allowing the mosque on Chase Cross Road to operate seven days a week.
This decision marks a positive step forward for the local Muslim community, as well as the wider public, who benefit from the mosque’s support. CRM not only serves as a place of worship and religious education, but also provides aid to people in need from all backgrounds.
The mosque, established in 2017, had previously been restricted to limited operating hours due to concerns about its impact on the surrounding residential area. Following a trial period, the council has now granted permanent approval for extended hours, recognizing CRM’s commitment to maintaining peace and harmony within the neighborhood.
During the 18-month trial, CRM worked closely with local authorities to address any concerns related to parking and noise, ensuring that the centre operated smoothly and in line with council guidelines. These efforts included educating attendees to park responsibly and promoting the use of public transport and walking to the mosque.
CRM highlighted that it is the only mosque in Collier Row catering to the Muslim community and stressed the need for more accessible places of worship. The mosque further pointed out that no other such facilities face similarly restrictive hours, despite being located in residential areas.
The planning committee acknowledged that CRM had adhered to its conditions and implemented measures to mitigate any potential impact on the neighborhood. With the new approval, the mosque is now able to open Monday to Friday from 12pm to 7:30pm, and from 12pm to 5:30pm on weekends and bank holidays.
As a vibrant community hub, CRM remains committed to fostering interfaith relations, supporting local charitable initiatives, and ensuring that its presence continues to benefit the wider Collier Row area.
